Writer's Strike

Mornin', y'all! I'm bored, so now I'm going to share that. Let's talk about this writer's strike thing. Now, I don't profess to know the ins and outs of it. Sucks, that's all I know. No new eps of the shows I watch, so now I get to watch even MORE reality TV. As if that didn't rot my little mind enough. But really, I watch(ed) Heroes, My Name is Early, The Office, 30 Rock, CSI, and that's about it. As far as scripted shows go... In reality, I always watch The Real World, the RR/RW Challenges, Survivor, American Idol, Big Brother, and various other horrible shows. I just saw a lineup of forthcoming reality shows, so allow me to present them to you.

The Biggest Loser 5 (premieres Tuesday, January 1 at 8PM ET/PT on NBC) So much for building anticipation, as NBC will debut the fifth season of this weight-loss reality series exactly two weeks following its fourth-season finale. Contestants trying to shed the pounds will be competing while paired in teams with somebody they have a pre-existing relationship with -- and they'll have to do so without former Red Team trainer Kim Lyons -- who replaced Jillian Michaels prior to the third season only to be replaced by Michaels prior to the fifth season.

My verdict on this: Might watch. The part I like best is the weigh-in. And the finale with all the before and after footage. I might cry.

Make Me a Supermodel (premieres Wednesday, January 2 at 11PM ET/PT on Bravo) This America's Next Top Model knock-off includes a few key differences, including a co-ed group of 14 aspiring runway walkers and home viewer votes determining each week's eliminated contestant. It will also answer that age-old question if male models are just as catty as their female counterparts.

My verdict: Doubtful. I don't watch ANTM, so this wouldn't really appeal to me.

The Celebrity Apprentice (premieres Thursday, January 3 at 9PM ET/PT on NBC)If you believe Donald Trump, billions of A-list celebrities were interested in participating in the seventh edition of this reality series, however he somehow ended up with a bunch of C- and D-listers. Regardless, The Donald still took them under his wing to teach them the ins and outs of the business world as they compete for their favorite charitable causes, which should make even Trump rivals Martha Stewart and Rosie O'Donnell smile.

My verdict: I'll probably watch this one. Although, I'm not sure why. Have you seen the cast list? Trace Adkins, Carol Alt, Stephen Baldwin, Nadia Comaneci, Tiffany Fallon, Jennie Finch, Nely Galan, Marilu Henner, Lennox Lewis, Piers Morgan, Tito Ortiz, Vincent Pastore (Big Pussy!), Gene Simmons, and OMAROSA?! I just want someone, anyone, to beat her ass.

How To Look Good Naked (premieres Friday, January 4 at 9PM ET/PT on Lifetime)When he's not judging mother/daughter beauty pageant teams for The CW, former Queer Eye fashion expert Carson Kressley is spending his free time educating women of all shapes and sizes on how to flatter their figure without extreme dieting or cosmetic surgery in this new reality series. Expect there to be a heavy use of trick mirrors.

My verdict: While I love Carson and the idea of being naked comfortably, I refuse to support anything that the dreadful channel known as Lifetime comes up with. So that's a negatory.

Heh... 9 days later. I'm going to post this, and write more tomorrow. HEY! I've been sick. Still am sick, actually. Which reminds me, when am I going to go to bed? It's already 2:00. The fam has been in bed for like... ever. It's fine. I like the quiet. Ahhhh, the quiet.

War is Over

Happy Christmas! To all of my dedicated non-existent readers. Which is actually okay, because I would feel guilty if I didn't post often, and thus far, I have been incomplete, at best. Scheiss!

Soooo... do we really want to talk about Christmas? Not so much, but let's try! I did alright... I got the movie I wanted (Halloween, a la Rob Zombie, which I can discuss later), I got some new towels, a new Cards sweatshirt, and a lovely sweater coat (which I knew about and asked for specifically). Dad gave us money. I should do something responsible with it and pay a bill, but you know... somehow that just isn't any FUN, and if there is something I need in life... it's fun. But no matter... The kids had a good time, I think. Both had a good haul. I wonder if I'm the only one who feels disappointed by Christmas. I wasn't sure on so many of the gifts I bought, I had to improvise on a couple of them. Including this super sweet picture I ended up choosing for Don, which I loved, but he didn't say anything about when he opened it. I am worshipful of that thing, and he gave it nary a second glance. I'll be happy to return it for him or let him return it or something if he doesn't like it. Or I'd just give him something else and keep it for myself.

Take a gander for yourself. It's lovely.

So what else has been going on.... I think my dad liked the computer we got him for Christmas. I hope so anyway, damn thing wasn't cheap. :) That wasn't a very Christian thing to say. OH GREAT! Now I am not going to be able to get that song out of my head... which is actually fine because I love the song (Stuck Between Stations - The Hold Steady), but the line specifically is:

"She was a real good kisser and she wasn't all that strict of a
Christian

She was a damn good dancer but she wasn't all that great of
girlfriend"

I listened to that last night at work, and it made me happy. I'm not as thrilled with the rest of the album, but... so it goes. I have been unable to find my beloved Rooney CD, so I'll have to make yet another concerted effort lest I have to replace it. Which I don't want to do. Even with my discount, it gets expensive. I actually wish that I could afford to buy every CD in the store that I want, and then to buy a new iPod that would actually accommodate all of my music. The one I have (20GB) is almost full, and before long, I'm going to have to break down and buy a bigger one. (BOOHOO) I don't care about having video on it, as I'm sure I wouldn't use it. But then again, if I had it, I might, so who's to say? I might just use it all the time. My only concern with such things is that the more components, the more "stuff" it has or does, the more that can go wrong with it. Like for instance, my car... it has leather seats. The seats have butt warmers! SWEET! But what happens if the butt warmers crap out? You still have great leather seats, but they are freakin' COLD in the winter. BAH!

Alas, I realize I am rambling, and that's okay for ME. Because that's partly what this thing is set up for. SERIOUSLY, I just need to get it OUT sometimes. My mind runs 90 to nothin' and it's hard to focus. It's like someone is flipping through my thoughts with a remote control. Click... I gotta remember to buy more paper plates... Click.... I need to wash the towels... Click... When does BB start again?... Click... I really like this book I'm reading... Click... I need a beer... Click... I wonder what Matt Damon is doing right now.... Click... I hope Aidan is eating his lunch... Click... When is that bill due again?... Like that. Just like that.

So here's the hilarious part!

In truth, I don't really have anything to say, but I felt like maybe if I gave myself permission, eh... a creative outlet if you will, that I might start writing every day. It's a longshot, I know. Besides, I'm much better in person. I'm funnier in person, how about that? I've learned that most people, unless they are socially inept, are much funnier in person. Unless you know them, and you can picture the expression they must be making. Or you can imagine the tone in which they delivered THAT doozy. WHEW! Good times, good times.

So anyway, I'm working 2 jobs right now, right? I know, some people have it much worse than I do. Working more than 2 jobs and none of them are going anywhere. My full time gig is great - 40 hours, great boss, been with the company almost 10 years, decent pay. Part time job? Love that, too, for the most part. There are days when being a retail monkey SUCKS MY BALLS, but the merch that I deal with makes it all worthwhile. I love being surrounded by all the books, music, and movies. It makes me feel very serene. However, I also lose my shit in that store because there is so much good stuff in there that I must own. Immediately. Most of my extra income gets sucked right back in there. I previously worked that for a little over 1 1/2 years, finally ended it all because I was so burnt out. I did it to myself, and I paid the price. By the time I quit, I was resentful. I didn't do my job poorly even then, but I was hating going to work. I was fine once I got there, but I hated going to work all day to come home and get ready to go to work all night. I have a full time job, my husband has a full time job. Why is that I was working 60-65 hours a week? Many reasons, most of which aren't worth sharing right now. Maybe later, kids.
